‘You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.’ Apple co-founder Steve Jobs left the world on the day after ‘Let’s talk iPhone’. While we have lost a visionary and creative genius that has, many times, changed our world, I have lost anidol who has changed my career, my life, and even my future.
The world was settled for MP3 player, the device we used to listen to music, which could only contain limited number of songs. Then came iPod in 2003, more than just a MP3 player with ‘1,000 songs in your pocket’ and better user-interface, its true vision lies in iTunes, a paradigm shift of online media retail store. The game-changing service quickly became the market leader in online music industry, with over 100 billions of songs were sold on iTunes till now.
That same year, a four-man company called ‘GreenTomato’ was founded in Hong Kong eyeing to capitalize on the coming age of mobile internet.
The story continued with the launch of iPhone. Gripping well on the apps distribution model, Apple completely changed the way people use smartphones which none had succeeded. We were also inspired to change our business model in 2009, entering the mobile development market and since becoming a pioneer of mobile applications in the region.
Mr Jobs, your creative sense has unprecedentedly changed the world, elevating user experience to an aesthetic state, and giving the world a real-life example of “pursue excellence and success will follow”. No matter what’s after iPhone4S and iCloud, your perseverance will keep inspiring us and you will be missed forever.
Goodbye and thank you to the one and only Steve Jobs.
